Digital Waste Tracking is coming. Here's what you need to know.

The UK Government is introducing new Digital Waste Tracking requirements across the waste industry.

From October 2026, all permitted waste receiving facilities, including EMR, will be required to record information about the waste they receive and the customers they trade with. This information will be submitted to our Regulators daily.

We're preparing for these changes now so that, when the new requirements become mandatory, your visits to EMR continue to be as quick and straightforward as possible.

Why is this happening?

Digital Waste Tracking is being introduced by the Government to improve the way waste is tracked across the UK. The new system is designed to provide greater transparency, improve compliance and help tackle waste crime.

This is an industry-wide change and will apply to waste facilities across the UK, not just EMR.

What does this mean for you?

Over the coming months, you may be asked to confirm or update some of your details when you visit an EMR site this could include:

Your name and address
Your business details, if you're trading as a business
Waste carrier registration details, where required

For many customers, this will simply be a case of checking that the information we already hold is correct.

Why are we starting now?

Although the new requirements become mandatory in October, we're preparing early to make the change as smooth as possible for our customers.

Updating information in advance will help us:

Keep your visits quick and efficient
Reduce delays when the new rules come into force
Ensure you can continue trading with us without interruption
