Blackburn Youth Zone benefits from the continued support of EMR

EMR making donation

The youth hub, located on Jubilee Street, has been awarded a further donation from EMR Blackburn, reaffirming a partnership created in 2019.

Blackburn Youth Zone, which is open to young people between the ages of 5 and 19, is open seven days a week and offers over 20 activities each evening. Their vision is guided by four principles: Starting where young people are, going where young people take us; providing opportunities for supportive adults to build positive relationships with young people; Bringing the people of the Blackburn area together to support our young people. Each demonstrating the youth hubs commitment to the local community.

EMR Blackburn has offered a donation to Blackburn Youth Zones young carer’s programme, supporting young people between the ages of 8 and 25. The programme aims to offer support to 30 individuals, allowing them to take much needed respite as well as access to mental health support.

Adam Sellers, Operation Manager at EMR Blackburn, explained why it was important for them to offer continued support:

“Over the years we have seen first-hand the positive impact that Blackburn Youth Zone has in the local community. The safe space and services they offer are invaluable and their support for young people enables them to flourish.

“During the periods of isolation caused by the COVID pandemic, young carers have faced increased pressures. This much needed support will enable young carers to catch up on lost hours of education and socialise with their peers.”

Mel Thomas, Fundraising Coordinator at Blackburn Youth Zone added:

"Thank you to EMR Group for donating £1000 to Blackburn Youth Zone. This money will go towards helping vulnerable young people across the borough. We would not be able to do this without your support, therefore I and the whole of BYZ send great thanks.”

Since its inception in 2020, EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme has seen the metal recycler partner with local charities, schools, social enterprises and community groups, in the aim of helping young people build brighter futures.
