EMR backs Great Yarmouth’s young carers with £3,000 contribution to GYGYC

EMR – a global leader in sustainable materials – is continuing its partnership with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers (GYGYC) to deliver support for young people - aged 5 to 21 - who are caring for a parent or sibling at home.

The renewed partnership continues EMR’s long-standing support for charities, community groups and schools assisting young people in the places where it operates.

The £3,000 contribution will provide counselling sessions to five young carers, helping to support their mental health and wellbeing, empowering them to continue their education and reach their full potential.

The contribution will also fund GYGYC as they offer a new initiative to local students whose parents are unable to attend open evenings. This scheme will offer the young people the opportunity to attend with a member of GYGYC’s staff instead. The scheme is designed to increase self-confidence while helping young people ask the right questions of the institutions and departments they might be interested in attending; getting the most from the events.

With sites across the UK, US and Europe, EMR supports charities and initiatives that benefit young people around the world – providing key skills to boost employability, access to sports and fun activities, as well as creating new nature-positive green spaces – among other initiatives, – with the aim of nurturing a better world for the next generation.

Terry Macrowan, Manager and Founder of GYGYC, said:

“I would like to Thank EMR Great Yarmouth for their generosity and continued support through our partnership. This year EMRs contribution will help to support our young carers mental health and wellbeing through our counselling programme and our new initiative in supporting our young carers move to further education to enabling them to reach their full potential.”

Russell Chapman, Depot Manager at EMR Great Yarmouth, said:

“Everyone at EMR Great Yarmouth is immensely proud to be supporting GYGYC and all the great work it does for our community.

“Young carers are the unsung heroes in many families, looking after parents or siblings while trying their best to continue their education and live the life their peers might take for granted.

“The contribution we’re announcing today will go directly into initiatives that will help boost these young people’s mental health and, by improving their access to further education, help them to better see – and achieve – their potential. It’s just one part of EMR’s global efforts to improve the lives of young people in the communities where we operate.”
