EMR partners with charity supporting young carers in Bedfordshire

EMR donation to Carers in Bedfordshire

EMR Bedford, based on Cauldwell Walk, has partnered with local charity Carers in Bedfordshire to support their Young Carers programme.

Carers in Bedfordshire, which was founded in 2004, offers support to those caring for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support. The charity offers; a listening ear, practical advice and a programme of activities, to improve carers’ physical and mental wellbeing. They give them a much needed break and put them in touch with carers in similar situations.

EMR has donated towards the charity’s mental health and resilience programme, funding 15 young people, aged 13 to 17-year-old, to access the vital service. This programme will provide them with the skills and coping mechanisms they need to manage their caring responsibilities.

Andrew Newell, General Manager at EMR Bedford expressed his pride in being able to support the charity:

“The COVID-19 pandemic has placed extra pressures on young carers and removed lifelines, such as school, which they would usually have to escape their caring duties. The role that the charity plays in enhancing young people’s lives has never been more important, so I am happy that we are able to support them in their vital work. We look forward to seeing our donation being put to good use.”

Jolene Retallick, Fundraising Manager at Carers in Bedfordshire, explained the difference that EMR’s donation would make:

“Young carers face many challenges and poor mental health can be the end result. This donation from EMR will give a group of young carers’ practical tools to improve their mental resilience, which will benefit them now and in the months and years to come. We are very grateful to EMR for making this possible.”

The donation has been made as part of EMR’s Young Futures Reimagined programme, which aims to help young people access opportunities which may otherwise be unavailable to them.
