How to sell your scrap metal

At EMR we welcome all customers whether you are a business or member of the public.
Call in to any of our yards, you don’t need an appointment. To find a local depot, check the opening hours or find contact details and directions just click here

If you have larger volumes of metal and are interested in finding out about our collection service just give us a call, or send your enquiry via our contact form and we’ll give you a call. We have a huge range of skips and bins available to meet your specific needs and we also offer total waste management solutions, find out more here.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act was introduced, all buyers of scrap metal, including mobile collectors, must ask you for a copy of your photo ID and proof of address, which must be dated within three months. A UK photo driving licence is probably the easiest form of identification, but if you want to see what else you can use check here for an up to date list.

If you have a car to scrap, bring the V5C registration document if you have it available, although we can still scrap the car without it. As an ATF, we can send you a certificate of destruction, CoD, to prove that you’re no longer the registered keeper of the vehicle.

Do I need an account?

No you don’t need to have an account with us before bringing in your scrap metal but remember to bring your identification with you. We’ll give you a loyalty card too which you can use at any of our depots.

How much will you pay?

We pay by metal weight. Metal is a commodity, so price varies according to the grade and worldwide markets. Since your local EMR scrap metal yard is an important part of our international trading company, we always offer a highly competitive price in your local area.

How will you pay me?

We can offer you a choice of payment including cheque, bank transfer and for fastest access to your money most of our depots can cash your cheque on-site. Don’t forget if you want to cash your cheque you’ll need photo ID and a separate proof of address.

Don’t worry, we take data protection seriously. As part of a well-established, international company we have all the systems in place to ensure that your details are kept safe.

Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013

The Government introduced the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 across the metal recycling industry in England and Wales from the 1st October 2013. This incorporates the Cash Ban introduced in December 2012 and now includes motor salvage operators and itinerant collectors. ALL scrap metal dealers, whether they are based at a scrap yard, are a motor salvage operator or a mobile collector are now obliged to verify the photo identity and address of anyone selling scrap metal to them.
